Taste the difference with Organic local Duck

Locally sourced and organic food have more nutrients and antioxidants than more commercially produced food sources. Organic farming uses sustainable methods of food production where the welfare of the animal is hugely important. At Regans, we also believe that animal happiness is important, indeed sometimes our clients have said they feel as if our animals are smiling when we take their photo! We have a deep concern for our environment and believe that managing our land organically will ensure the lands viability for further generations.

Our organic ducks are allowed to roam freely on the farm, picking at whatever takes their fancy. This allows them to engage in normal animal behaviour. There is no routine administration of drugs or vaccines and so the ducks are healthy and thriving. Allowing the ducks to live like this takes very careful farm management, and plenty of forward planning on our side. To ensure that we have an adequate healthy pasture, bedding and environment for the ducks, we need to plan months in advance.

We have very strict guidelines to adhere to and are governed by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine. We are also governed by the Organic Trust Ltd. To get your farm approved fully organic can take up to two years (if you are changing from a commercial farm to an organic one). Once a farm has been approved they are subjected to annual inspections to ensure the animals welfare comes first. We have higher costs as the ducks food has to be organic and is more expensive . Added to this is the extra paperwork required to verify that we are organic which adds further expense.

But all of this careful management comes out in the succulent flavour of the duck. Our duck is so full of flavour that it’s served in the famous Ballymaloe restaurant and Donnybrook Fair. Now we are delighted to be able to allow everyone the chance to taste the difference with our new online shop.
